DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMAN

KATHRINE SWITZER
Kathrine Switzer at the 2011 Berlin Marathon Expo.jpg

She competed in athletics. Switzer won the 1974 New York Marathon and finished second in the 1975 Boston Marathon, where he achieved his best mark with a time of 2 hours, 51 minutes and 37 seconds.
BOSTON MARATHON 1967
She was the first woman to run a race with dorsal, event that was intended exclusively for male athletes, when in 1967 Boston marathon managed to start from the finish line with number 261 and get to cross the final line after 4 hours and 20 minutes.
In the course of the race, one of the commisioners, called Jock Semple, who was co-director of the race, detecting Kathrine Switzer was a women, he tried to stop her, he left behind her and shouted: "Get out of here and give me back the dorsal". But the collaboration of her boyfriend and some runners, who escorted her to the finish, prevented the athlete from being withdrawn from the competition

1.- What is strenght as basic physical ability? How many types of strenght are there? Explain them and give an example of each of them.

Strenght as basic physical ability is the capacity of our muscles to contract against a resistance. There many types of strenght:
  • Explosive strenght: is the capacity of people to develop maximum muscle tension in a short period of time without losing the efficiency. This type of strenght is reflected on weight-lifting or when runners start the race.

  • Static strenght: as a result of an isometric contraction, an increase in the tension of the contracting elements is created without there being a variation of lenght in the muscular structure. There is a static tension that doesn't generate a physical movement because the result of strenght and displacement is equal to zero. This type of strenght is reflected in isometric exercises.

  • Resistance strenght: this effort varies in the function of the time of the application and the ability of the body to resist fatigue. This ability to resist wear during exercise can be short, medium and long duration. The strenght of duration is trying to beat the time with a maximum of 80% maximum repetition. In this situation, there is a high muscular tension, the closing of the arteries, the lack of oxygenation, the absence of nutrients in the blood and local factors at the moment of the exercise. In the same way, the strenght of the means of communication allows the efforts to be maintained before the loads that range from 20% to 40%  of a maximum repetition. Finally, the strenght of long duration implies the execution of an effort for a load below 20% of a maximum repetition. This type of strenght is reflected in squads or in push-ups.

2.- What is flexibility as basic physical capacity? What factors flexibility depend on?

Is the ability to move or some of its parts with great amplitude, without causing damage, thanks to joint mobility and muscle elasticity.
Flexibility depends on two factors:
  • Muscle elasticity: ability to enlarge the muscles and recovery of the initial position.
  • Joint mobility: maximum degree of movement of each joint.
  • Intramuscular coordination: Muscle regulation (the control of muscular contractions) is carried out by means of neuronal activations in which the nerve cells of the motor cortex transmit the necessary stimuli through nerve fibers (from the motor unit it emits the impulse that causes the muscle fiber to contract. The motor unit emits the impulse that causes the muscle fiber to contract 20-100 cm in lenght to the muscle or muscle group to be activated.

3.-What is endurance as basic physical ability? How may types of endurance are there? Explain them and give an example of each of them.

Is the ability to maintain an effort for a long time, that is, the ability of a muscle or body to repeat an activity many times. There are two types of endurance:
  • Aerobic endurance: it allows us to maintain constant and prolonged efforts of medium or low intensity. For example, this type of endurance is reflected in jump rope and cycling.

  • Anaerobic endurance: it allows us to maintain an effort of high intensity for as long as possible. This type of endurance is reflected on 100 meters races or in weight-lifting.

4.- How can I improve my endurance? Explain two exercises to improve aerobic endurance.
  • Jump rope, go cycling...
  • Circuit: the circuit that you will make must have various stages in which you will have to do exercise to improve your endurance. You must make each exercise between 20 and 30 seconds and rest 1 minute.

E. PROJECT II

- How would you describe the "program music" concept.

  •  I think "program music" is a type of music that express an extrameaning that makes you feel a feeling that depends on the speed of the melody. Also, "program music" can suggest a feeling, a landscape or an image.
- Choose one of the next examples (worked already a bit in Music classes) and do some research about the composer (4 or 5 lines are enough).

I choose the Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi ( Venecia, 4th March 1678- Viena, 28th July 1741) was a composer, violinist, businessman, teacher and Venetian catholic baroque priest. He composed some 770 works, which there are more than 400 concerts and about 46 operas. He is famous, for being the author of the series of concerts for violin and orchestra The Four Seasons.

-  This is the musical piece we are playing in the class. Do you believe the composer transmits the title meaning in a good manner? Why?

  • Yes, because it express perfectly how is a morning.

D.PROJECT I

BLOWING IN THE WIND
How many times must your family lie
Before you learn the true
How many wars must a soldier resist
Before he leaves his job
How many coques can a man drink
Before he has diabetes
How many games must students play in class
Before the teacher comes
How many leaves can a tree drop down
Before the autumn comes
How many days can we feel sad
Before the war has come.

- Which one do you prefer? Why?

  • In my opinion, I prefer the original song of Bob Dylan because if you want hear the original song you must hear this song not all the covers.

-Who was Bob Dylan?

  • Bob Dylan is an American musician, singer, composer and poet that is considered one of the most prolific and respeted figures in popular music of the 20th century and of the beginning of the 21st century.
- In Music Classes I have told you about the sixties and the music of that period , including some videos. If you paid attention, you will be capable of writing down a summarize. (4 or 5 lines are enough)
  • The sixties started in 1960 and ended in 1969. The 60s were marked by many events like " The Cold War", " Vietnam War", John F. Kennedy becomes a new president of the United States and many events more. There were a lot of racism and womens didn't have rights. Some famous music groups and singers were The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones...
